Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I don’t have enough people in my group to fill a whole boat, can I still go?
A: Sure can! We have two options available, depending on the size of your group and your budget.
1) You can book an entire boat for just you and your friends. The remaining available space needs to be bought out by your group however. So if you have a group of 12 on a 14 person boat, you need to pay for the two empty spaces.
2) We can match your group up with other guests who don’t have enough people to fill a boat. Bust Loose always tries to maintain a good mix of guys and gals on each boat when doing this, and we like to ensure that people on the boat will all get a long. We think it’s one of the best ways to make new friends, and from experience, we’ve seen life-lasting friendships formed on many of our trips when we’ve combined groups!

Q: When is the latest I can book?
A: House boating is incredibly popular during the summer months and our trip occurs in peak season. We recommend booking sooner rather than later as we have a limited fleet at our disposal. When booking earlier in the season it guarantees you get the boat you want and you get your early booking discount!

Q: How does the payment plan work?
A: Once you’ve made your deposit, a Bust Loose Holidays representative will contact you to discuss whether you’d like to utilize our payment plan. The balance (less deposit) is due in 3 equal payments: 90 days prior to sailing, 60 days prior to sailing and 30 days prior to sailing. There is a 5% fee applied to any balance owing after the initial deposit.

Q: When is final payment due?
A: The full balance is due 45 days prior to your sailing date.

Q: What other costs are involved with houseboating vacations?
A: Your costs are minimal. You pay for the gas and propane you use during your vacation and daily insurance during your trip. Your gas costs will vary depending on how you operate your boat and how much time you spend cruising. Most of our customers spend around $110-$150/day on gas, this is an estimate only but is a good figure for budgeting purposes. Propane also will vary with use and would average between $50-100 per trip.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: You supply all your bedding, pillows, blankets, bath mats, towels, etc. We offer some optional rentals such as linens and deck chairs/tables, but if you have room, by all means, bring them from home as well. We do suggest you remember games, coolers, sun screen, hats, sunglasses, DVD’s or CD’s as well as water toys.

Q: Can I be a DJ?
A: Bust Loose gets dozens of DJ applications annually and we are always surprised at the level of talent applying. That being said, you need to be good to entertain our crowds! Once you’ve booked your trip, reach out to your Bust Loose agent to enquire about DJing. If you’re good enough, we may even pay back the cost of your trip!

Q: Do I get to drive the boat?
A: Our Lake guides are on-hand to drive your boat so you can sit back, drink, and relax during your time on the lake. Drivers need to remain a blood alcohol content in accordance with provincial laws and therefore we recommend you allow our guides to take care of you! We do, however assign drivers and you are allowed to drive though we do require you to have a valid drivers license. Our knowledgeable dock staff will instruct you on all aspects of your houseboat operation. We highly recommend that you obtain a Pleasure Craft  Operator Card prior to your arrival. This is an easy course available online at: Get Your Pleasure Craft Operating Card

Q: How do we get out to the Shuswap?
A: Sicamous is located on Shuswap Lake between Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley and Kamloops in the Thompson Nicola Valley. It is 6 hours from Calgary or Vancouver and 9 from Edmonton. We do have a waitlist available to take a bus from Calgary to Sicamous. Please advise your Bust Loose agent if you’d like to join it when booking your trip.

Q: What do we do in the case of a medical emergency on the lake?
A: Bust Loose does have an emergency first aid team on site.Your boat is equipped with a VHF Radio to link you to our home base at all times. This radio is monitored 24 hours a day by up to 3 different employees. So no matter what time of day or night you require our assistance we will have somebody standing by for you.
